Hillary: Sending Katie Couric to Iraq ‘Too Little, Too Late’ Hillary: Sending Katie Couric to Iraq ‘Too Little, Too Late’

ScrappleFace: Hillary: Sending Katie Couric to Iraq ‘Too Little, Too Late’:
Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, today said that the decision by CBS to send Evening News anchor Katie Couric to Baghdad, Iraq, was a “desperate move” that she called “too little, too late.”

“When what you’re doing isn’t working, you need to cut your losses and pull out,” said Sen. Clinton, noting that, “Almost a year into the Couric anchorage, CBS News has failed to unite any substantial group of viewers and the evening news landscape remains a hopeless quagmire of sectarian fighting.”

CBS producer Rick Kaplan, however, said that sending a widowed, single mother of two young children into a war zone would “demonstrate that we mean business.”

Mr. Kaplan called on Sen. Clinton to “allow the Couric surge plan time to work, rather than advocating a defeatist strategy of cut-and-run.”
The big question though is whether the perky Katy Couric gets out of the "Green" zone and actually has a chance to see what is going on in Iraq. Al Qaeda knows that the MSM stays in the "safe" part of Baghdad, and bombs accordingly..

What do you call John Edwards at the bottom of Lake Michigan? What do you call John Edwards at the bottom of Lake Michigan?

Answer: A good start.

Thanks to poster: Dubya resonding to Feeling "Betrayed," Kucinich Calls Edwards Bluff where Rep. Kucinich indicated a feeling of betrayal with former Sen. Edwards attempting to cut him out of future Democratic presidential debates.

Poll: Majority Says Paris Hilton’s Plight Good for America Poll: Majority Says Paris Hilton’s Plight Good for America

ScrappleFace: Poll: Majority Says Paris Hilton’s Plight Good for America:
An overwhelming majority of Americans say they’ve never felt better about themselves than during the past several weeks as they follow the story of Paris’ Hilton’s conviction and incarceration.

Indeed, some 87 percent of those polled said they relished feeling superior to someone who, according to cultural norms, should be considered superior to them. In brief, researchers say their findings show: “What’s bad for Paris Hilton is good for America.”

The CBS News/New York Times survey also showed that, 58 percent of Americans were willing to see Ms. Hilton suffer further disgrace, prolonged imprisonment or even death for the good of the nation.

AQWHNTDWIIIWHNTDWAQ* AQWHNTDWIIIWHNTDWAQ*

Taranto in: OpinionJournal - Best of the Web Today defines "AQWHNTDWIIIWHNTDWAQ" as "Al Qaeda Which Has Nothing to Do With Iraq in Iraq Which Has Nothing to Do With al Qaeda".

I had been looking for this for those times I find myself arguing against someone who claims that al Qaeda isn't in, nor has it ever been in, Iraq.

Reid: Bush Must Halt Slaying of Terrorist Leaders Reid: Bush Must Halt Slaying of Terrorist Leaders

ScrappleFace: Reid: Bush Must Halt Slaying of Terrorist Leaders
As unconfirmed news broke that the chief of al-Qaeda in Iraq may have been killed in a battle with a rival terror group, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called on President George Bush to step in and halt the slaying of terror leaders.

It’s a known fact that every time a terror leader is killed, another rises to take his place,” said Sen. Reid. “Therefore, the only way to stop the spawning of new terror leaders is to halt the slaying of the current ones.

Cheney Allegedly Offers to Trade Carter for Hostages Cheney Allegedly Offers to Trade Carter for Hostages

ScrappleFace: Cheney Allegedly Offers to Trade Carter for Hostages:
A source close to Dick Cheney said today that the vice president has suggested freeing 15 British sailors and marines from Iranian captivity by trading former President Jimmy Carter for the hostages.

The deal, which Mr. Cheney reportedly believes “has a certain poetic justice to it”, would require an executive order signed by President George Bush, but the unnamed source said presidential adviser Karl Rove “can take care of that as usual without bothering the president with the details.”

White House insiders said the trade would not violate the Bush administration’s policy of refusing to negotiate with terrorists, “since only one party in this deal would receive anything of strategic value.
It is actually worse than that. The Iranians would be giving up something of strategic value in trade for something that has a negative strategic value to us. Looks to be a winner from our side.

Gore Tells Congressional Panel: I Don’t Exhale Gore Tells Congressional Panel: I Don’t Exhale

ScrappleFace: Gore Tells Congressional Panel: I Don’t Exhale:
(2007-03-21) — Oscar-winning filmmaker Al Gore, testifying Wednesday before a Congressional panel on global warming, revealed a little-known technique he has used for years to reduce his personal greenhouse gas emissions.

I don’t exhale, and I haven’t since about 1991,” said the full-figured Mr. Gore. “Science shows there’s nothing wrong with humans breathing per se, it’s just the exhaling of carbon dioxide that threatens to bring our world to a premature, fiery, water-drenched apocalyptic end.

Mr. Gore, still a Democrat party favorite to win the White House in the year 2000, said he also reduces his so-called “carbon footprint” by giving speeches and making movies to convince other people to cut their greenhouse gas production, thereby offsetting the emissions generated by his own global travel in private jets as well as SUVs and limousines.

Leveraging the small efforts of millions of ordinary people is a very democratic way of achieving carbon-neutrality,” Mr. Gore said.

It’s a team effort,” he added, while displaying a Powerpoint slide of the acronym: TEAM = Together Everyone Atones for Me.

ScrappleFace: Iraq Terror Groups Offer Non-Binding Ceasefire ScrappleFace: Iraq Terror Groups Offer Non-Binding Ceasefire

ScrappleFace: Iraq Terror Groups Offer Non-Binding Ceasefire
A coalition of major terror groups operating in Iraq today announced a symbolic, non-binding ceasefire in response to House Democrats’ passage of a non-binding resolution rejecting President George Bush’s troop surge plan.

Al Qaeda in Iraq, the Shiite Mahdi army and representatives of a Sunni car-bomb cartel said they would continue to fully fund martyrdom operations, with help from their friends in Iran, Syria and elsewhere.

An unnamed spokesman for the terror coalition said, “The non-binding ceasefire serves as a kind of imaginary turning point in the mythical pursuit of peace among those who have pledged their lives to the destruction of the U.S., Christianity, Judaism and Western civilization in general.”
And I especially liked this:
“Our friends in Congress continue to display the rich diversity of patriotism,” the president said. “Their actions demonstrate to all Americans that you, in fact, can support the troops while opposing the war, as long as you’re not too specific about whose troops you support.”

Al Franken Announces He Was Once a Comedian Al Franken Announces He Was Once a Comedian

ScrappleFace: Al Franken Announces He Was Once a Comedian:
Former liberal radio host Al Franken, in announcing his candidacy for the U.S. senate in Minnesota, yesterday shocked his potential constituents by revealing that he was once a comedian.

“I realize that most people may be skeptical about my credentials,” said the recently-resigned Air America talkhost in a web video, “But seriously, I was a comedian. I did Saturday Night Live. I played comedy clubs. It’s a matter of public record and I invite journalists to do the research to verify my claim.”

Mr. Franken did not provide any evidence to buttress his allegation about this little-known chapter in his career, but instead devoted the bulk of his announcement video to claims that he has ancestors who worked for a living.

“My wife, Franny, and I come from working class backgrounds,” said Mr. Franken, “Of course, I got away from that miserable, pathetic lifestyle as fast as I could.”
Franken's problem is that the Al Franken decade is long over, and that is really when he ceased to be even somewhat funny. Since then, he appears more angry than anything, though I am not sure why he would be so angry. Maybe it was because his career as a comedian went into the tank then.

The Onion: Meth Addicts Demand Government Address Nation's Growing Spider Menace. Scary stuff:
WASHINGTON, DC—Following the tragic falling death of 32-year-old methamphetamine addict Phillip Diggs, who was reportedly attacked by spiders while scaling a large construction crane near Palo Alto, CA, thousands of outraged and confused meth addicts marched frenetically on Washington as part of a week of activities urging the federal government to address the nation's growing spider epidemic.

Christopher Hitchens has an amusing article in Vanity Fair titled: Why Women Aren't Funny. His conclusion is that men are funnier because they have to be.

Day by Day visits Club Gitmo Day by Day visits Club Gitmo

Chris Muir has managed to hit two or three issues with one cartoon. I love the idea here that we are feeding the detainees so well that they want to be photoedited like Katie Couric to slim them down for propoganda pictures. Also, the Club Gitmo allusion suggests that Muir is sometimes a Dittohead.

Huffington’s Toast - Not Affiliated With Arianna Huffington or The Huffington Post Huffington’s Toast - Not Affiliated With Arianna Huffington or The Huffington Post

Huffington’s Toast - Not Affiliated With Arianna Huffington or The Huffington Post. Far far better than the original. Today, it had:
- Mike Isikoff selling Koran TP on Ebay and later martyring himself by offering to resign due to the (so far) 17 deaths he caused.
- Arianna supposedly had a houseboy, probably illegal Mexican, whom she forced to blog (and have sex?).
- David Rees wants to meet Wonkette for the anal sex she often talks about.
- Kathyrn Ireland wants to get draft beer for her soon-to-be-teen sons so that they don't have to drink out of a can.
- Hunter Thompson blogs from Hell about drugs, etc.
