Byron York in a National Review Online article titled: "What’s Really Going On In the William Jefferson Fight" makes some interesting observations. One that has been missed by most is that the FBI subpoena includes electronic communications. In other words, the FBI wanted to copy Jefferson's hard drive, which is pretty much guaranteed to include a lot of stuff that is not suspect, but rather pertains directly to his job as a Congressman. This may have been why the Republican leadership backed him, despite how bad it looks for them to have done so.
