Real Clear politics had an article on the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) titled: Are You Able to Obey This Law?. So, apparently, the captain of the Exxon Valdez ran his ship aground (and caused somewhat of an environmental stir because of that) because he had been drunk the night before. Exxon, of course, paid billions as a result. But apparently, the ADA won't allow a company to prevent former abusers of alcohol or other drugs from working in safety related positions, if they are supposedly "cured", as the captain there had been. So, they have to let drunks drive their oil tankers under the ADA, but also have to pay the cost when the drunks run their tankers aground.
