WSJ article: What a Load of Armitage! What did Patrick Fitzgerald know, and when did he know it? hyperventilates a bit on Armitage, Wilson, and Fitzgerald, but makes some good points. I do agree that Fitz knew almost immediately that Plame had not been legally covert at the time of her "outing", but that doesn't answer the question of her classified status. Determining that her status was classified was probably fairly straight forward. The problem that arose is whether disclosing that was a crime, and, IMHO, that is what took long enough for Libby to get into trouble. See "Fitzgerald's failure to indict under 18 USC 793".
