NATO - Help Wanted NATO - Help Wanted

TCS Daily artcile: Help Wanted points out that after decades of low defense spending, the rest of NATO, outside the U.S. and the U.K. is barely able to help in Afghanistan these days. On paper, the rest of NATO has twice the active duty and twice the reserve personel as does the U.S. But in reality, the U.S. can deliver its manpower to a fight, protect it, supply it, etc., and most of the rest of NATO cannot. Indeed, I saw a joke the other day about how you could recognize a Scandanavian helicopter in Afghanistan - it is the one flying alone. American choppers typically fly with gunship support, and often have heavier air support on call. Much of NATO has neither. Without American heavy lift capability, many of those NATO forces would still be sitting back home.
