Saddam's Man in Niger Saddam's Man in Niger
Christopher Hitchens in a Weekly Standard article: Saddam's Man in Niger faults the Senate Intelligence Committee for missing the obvious on Iraqi diplomatic trips to Niger, in 1991 and 2001. In both cases, the justification was highly dubious. Niger had one thing that Iraq wanted, and that was yellowcake, and Iraq had one thing that Niger wanted, and that was money. Not the oil suggested, because it was under U.N. sanctions at the time, and Algeria and Nigeria are much closer, and could have supplied Niger with oil w/o violating sanctions.
