Cameras set racial poser on car crime - Sunday Times - Times Online Cameras set racial poser on car crime - Sunday Times - Times Online

It is noted in this article, Cameras set racial poser on car crime - Sunday Times - Times Online, that Britain's attempt to catch illegal plates, stolen cars, etc., through use of cameras that take pictures of license plates, and then relays this information to the police for intercept, is having disparate racial impact. Some 46% of all those stopped via this program turn out to be Black. And this is a political problem, esp. for a Labor Govt., and a London city government run by Red Ken.

Pretty slick technology, if you ask me. It is pretty good computer vision for the system to recognize license plates, figure out the plate numbers from the pictures, match them against a database, and then alert the police if something questionable pops up.

The next step though is going to be interesting. The logical solution is to also automatically determine what the race of the driver of the car is, and then only pull over a fraction of those non-Whites who pop up, with that percentage calculated to result in non-disparate impact on the non-White community.

Well, obviously the computers are racist.

Of course, the other explanation is that some communities commit far more crimes than others. I really think calling it a race issue is wrong though; its more of a cultural tendency imho, more or less independent of race.
